about us

Les Lewski is an unofficial, free collective of multidisciplinary artists based between Tiohtià:ke/Montreal and Trois-Pistoles (Wolastokuk) in Quebec. We commit to a radical approach of theatrical performance using good old fun - sometimes including but not limited to our butts - to engage and connect deeply with our audience. We believe anyone who makes a commitment to sit through our shows deserves the same commitment on our part : we will take your hand, intertwine our weird little fingers and bring you in. Our theatre is something we do together, a weaving of here and now and all that lives inside our heads. Without you, it just ain't the same.

artistic approach : you and us, us and you

We really need to pay someone to define our artistic approach in less colloquial terms, but we are mostly interested in very intentional copresence with the audience. We like to spend time on stage, with you. We draw inspiration from game design mechanisms, which are geared to interact and deeply engage with its audience. We come to the stage to play. We are here to engage in delirious, wonderfully unhinged dialogue with you, whether it's about a denim-loving un-heterosexual centaur or not-so-deeply buried fear of snakes.

Basically we'll talk about anything but in ways that take us to strange, weird corners of our shared human psyche (I mean, we try). We believe there's a weirdo hidden in everyone, and there is political power to remembering that with a deep belly-laugh next to someone you don't know in a dusty theatre or on the lawn of your public park.

ok just us now

Collaboration is at the heart of our artistic vision. We believe in the power of collective creativity, bringing together diverse talents and perspectives. At the heart of the collective are Guillaume Létourneau, Audrée Lewka and David Emmanuel Jauniaux, who met at theatre school in 2014. We like to work intuitively with improv, following unintended sparks and tending them into roaring fires.

Our work is inspired by our DIY aesthetic. We enjoy creating cardboard props and dollar store costumes and following wherever that leads us.

this is important

We believe that living arts should be inherently folk arts, from and for the folks, and strive to examine and break down barriers that come from our privileged position as professionnally trained artists. We like to perform in spaces that invite contact with heterogenous crowds, and seek out social diversity. Most of our shows can and have been done outside or in unconventionnal venues. We are very flexible on this.

Ours shows are approachable and created in such a way as to provide keys of understanding for people who do not have the codes of the theater. If our dads/aunts/etc. won't get it, it most likely won't make it on stage.

We stand for LGBTQIA+ rights, decolonization (land back) and anti-racism. We like to connect with like-minded artists and organisms. Art as a radical tool for social change.
